OK, this is the first post on my new blog – just here to test it works properly.
This is a picture of me with a small whiting caught at the start of this year in a fishing match run by Blackpool & Layton Angling Society (BLAS) along the prom at New Brighton Town Hall Steps.
BLAS run a range of fishing matches throughout the year, both coarse and sea fishing, I’m not sure how much full membership is but it’s £10 a year to be a ‘sea only’ member. Being a member has been great for both me and my wife, Wendy, we’ve made some good friends and fished all over the country – last year we even won a few trophies and this year has started well with Wendy winning the first match at Fort Perch Rock, New Brighton.

I would have to say that my favorite type of water is big rivers. Big riffles that settle into deep pools and channels with ledge holes that turn black. Although I do enjoy fishing smaller and medium sized streams as well there is something about the big heavy water that always draws me back. I guess its that you never know what can happen on a pool or run that can hold such big fish.
