After the announcement during last week of the oil slick spotted in the Menai Straits, between Anglesey and the North Wales mainland, many people were very concerned about the ecological ramifications of such an event. The BBC had this to say last monday so it appears that the scale of the slick was not as great as it first appeared and according to the local coastguard and the environment agency the environmental impact on the area should be minimal. Lets [... read rest of post]
I picked up the car last night from Banks and Derbyshire and after all the relevant bits and pieces being replaced, including 2 of the wheels, it looks fantastic and drives better than it ever did. I can whole heartedly recommend this local Preston company to anyone who needs their car bodywork repairing, their service was second to none. All I now have to do is hassle the insurance company to get the other party to accept liability then I [... read rest of post]

Well we haven’t been out walking or fishing for a while as we’ve been busy trying to sort out the front garden. I am pleased to say it’s nearly finished except for putting in some new plants so it was great when my mother rang and asked if we wanted to go round for a BBQ on Saturday to celebrate father day and Wendy’s birthday a day early while the weather was nice. If you’ve read my earlier post, Watering [... read rest of post]

An easy days fishing on a blazing hot day – fantastic. After collecting some great bait – peeler crabs from Chris at Moreton Angling Centre ( on the Wirral) on Saturday morning Wendy was fired up to defend the estuary cup as she’d already won leg one earlier in the year at Fort Perch Rock. The River Alt is a beautiful place, especially when the weather is so good and seems almost like it’s own little world sometimes. The fishing [... read rest of post]
Nothing to report really. After talking to the insurance company it appears that the liability claim is going to take forever due to all the foreign agencies involved so against my better judgement I’ve rented a car from Enterprise (very helpful people) and I’ll claim back the expenses once everything is sorted out. Expenses! Blimey it’s going to cost me a fortune, good job we can claim it back. Car for 2 weeks – approx £300. insurance for the rental [... read rest of post]

After a late night today we decided on something a little easier – rock fishing for Wrasse of Llanbadrig just past the church – unfortunately for us we’d forgotten that the church is still active and we couldn’t find anywhere to park so plan B was to go a fish off Wylfa head, just round the corner from the Nuclear Power Station. After parking up we wound our way to our chosen area only to find some other people had [... read rest of post]

Plan F was Cymyran Bay, behind RAF Valley. The road to the beach is, to say the least, a little bumpy, but the end result is worth it. Cymyran Bay is almost unknown to most people and hence was almost deserted when we got there. We made our way to the deep channel between Holy Island and Anglesey proper and cast in our large crabs baits. We know the Bass cruise this channel when the tide turns so we waited [... read rest of post]

After a cuppa and picking up some different gear we quickly drove down to Newborough to catch the last hour of the flood and a couple of hours down again. As we arrived a couple of people were leaving which didn’t look to good but on arrival we spotted a few people fishing into the surf but they seemed to be having a lot of problems with weed – here we go again I thought! The venue changes dramatically during [... read rest of post]

After arriving at the Cottage, Ty Cristion, at the top end of Anglesey, calming down after the journeys encounter with the truck and unloading the car we were determined not to let the accident dampen our mood so we did what we usually do and went fishing. First stop was the other side of cable bay but the wind was a strong Westerly and we only ended up getting tiny bites and we couldn’t connect with the fish. The area [... read rest of post]
