Thanks for visiting the blog, Southport is a funny old place to fish as the tide goes in and out so far but the pier is fishing quiet well at the moment for Flounder and Eels although personally I’d give it a miss in this wind :) Everywhere else in the area is a touch dangerous without a bit of knowledge as your liable to get cut off by the tide racing in, that and the beach is very shallow unless you know where all the gullies are.

Anywhere along the Fylde coast – Blackpool up to Fleetwood is good and fairly safe a couple of hours either side of high water but again in this wind it’s probably worth giving it a miss – we need westerlies to put up a surf but at the moment it’s a bit too much.

Fleetwood Channel, at the top end of Fleetwood is worth a go a couple of hours either side of low water for Flounder but at the moment everyone will be waiting for either the westerlies to die a little to fish the Fylde coast for Bass or for them to change to easterlies and fish up at Cleveleys for Smoothhoud using Crab as bait.

Of course the other alternative is to find somewhere in North Wales / Anglesey where you are protected from the wind but it’s a bit of a treck…

Funny you should mention Southport beach – I had a go for Bass last night at Formby, I didn’t get any but Kev had a small one and a few Flounder were landed as well – the weather was a bit damp to say the least but the wind put up a good surf but I think the tide was probably to big to be able to fish the gulleys that run along the beach for any length of time – good to be out though :)
