It’s been a while since I’ve looked into getting some new hiking boots but finally my old pair gave way and with the rock fishing season well and truly upon us I took a ‘proper’ look at the range from Merrell. I’ve worn Merrell MOAB training shoes for the past 6 or so years and they’ve been fantastic – especially the Gortex ones which are fully waterproof. After looking around, I ordered a pair of the hiking boot version, the Merrell MOAB Mid GTX from Zalando in a UK size 10.
The first pair came within a few days and I was a little disappointed to find that a pair of size 9.5’s had arrived but after chatting to customer services at Zalando this was quickly sorted out and very soon the right size arrived , a UK 10, US 44.5. It appears that the sizes are wrong on the web site so I’d recommend checking the US sizes or phoning them up before ordering. Zalando, are a top brand online retailer new to the UK market and a few teething problems are evident but I’m sure these will be ironed out soon.
So service wise I was pleased, now to the boots.
As expected the Merrell MOAB GTX boots are brilliant, exceptionally comfortable over long periods of time and very lightweight for such a substantial boot. The build quality is good and if they last anything like as long as my trainers, these will have a lot of ‘foot time’ while I clamber around the rocks sea fishing. In fact they’re so good I’l probably use them for my hiking instead of my full leather ones.
