Anglesey Arrival, Cymyran Paddle and Cemlyn Walk

An early start saw us making much better time than anticipated on our journey down to Anglesey so we popped in to ‘Oinkys’ a new cafe on the A55 at Llandulas owned and run by Gareth, who coincidently owns Menai Angling where we picked up a healthy supply of bait for the next two weeks. The cafĂ© was excellent and the bait equally so and we arrived at Our cottage at Ty Cristion around lunch time.

Well, almost nothing, as the weather was so good we went for a stroll along Cymyran beach, behind the RAF Valley Air Force base towards Rhosneigr. A quick paddle confirmed that even though the sun was still up, the water was still a little chilly.

Day 2 saw us up early and being greated by another gloriously sunny day. After a lazy breakfast, it was our first day after all, we made a trip to Snowdonia Adventure, just the other side of Caernarfon to get a new pair of walking shoes for Wendy. After trying a few on she opted for the Merrell Calia Waterproof, a good light shoe with ample protection for trails and a fairly flexible sole.

After a light lunch we made our way to the North of the island to Cemlyn Bay. Parking on the left of the bay for a change we walked along the coast for a while then back inland in a loop, nothing strenuous as the main reason was to check Wendy shoes were OK.

Cemlyn was alive with wildlife of all sorts and the coastal and hedgerow flowers were beautiful. Amongst the things we saw were Sandwich Terns flying back and forth between nests and sea, beaks full of Sandeels. Cinnabar Moths and 6 Spot Burnet Moths and a blue fuzzy flower which I later (today) identified as Devil’s-bit Scabious (Succisa pratensis), a new one for us.

The sea was mirror calm and with the haze over the water in the distance it made the transition of sky to sea very hard to judge, the islands in the distance seam to float in some of the photos we took.

No blisters or aches and pains so on returning and after dinner the plan was made… Snowdon here we come
