I see they have Alan Yates writing a few articles on their blog so I will be keeping an eye on that as he writes about all things sea fishing related.

Eileen’s editor, Susan, asked if she could use one of my photographs for the cover a few months ago and until I received an email asking for my address I’d completely forgotten about it.

My first ever published photo – brilliant!

Susan found the photo from a post I did a while back about bird watching at Marshside, Southport and the only change they’ve made to it is to flip it so the moon is top right.

I”ll leave you with an excerpt from the “Walking In the Wind” by Eileen Berry as she describes a bit of Marshside in a way I hope to do in my photography.

“Wide skies, white seabirds, wild seas – this is her world -
the whole blustery world of marsh and near-deserted shore,
where a few people look for shells,
a man walks his dog”

This week all us web-geeks finally get to see a ray of hope in the ever frustrating war we have while trying to make our websites work correctly in MS Internet Explorer version 6 as Google announce that they are ceasing support for the aging (2001) web browser. This may not seem like such a big deal to most people out there but it is truly astounding how many people still use, through no fault of their own, a piece of software that is so bug ridden and non-complient that it can easily add weeks onto the development of a website as the developer works around some fairly major flaws.

Hopefully, as reported on the BBC news website today, this will start a trend as major companies move away from Explorer 6, which will enable the web to become all it should be instead of developers having to hold back their creativity while supporting such a flawed piece of software. Already the UK government is looking at updating all it’s browsers, in all departments, to the latest ones.

To find more about how you or your company can help in the campaign to rid the internet of Explorer 6 you can check out the website ie6nomore.com to find out more.

It looks like, at least for web developers like myself, the final nail is being driven in Explorer 6′s coffin – long may it stay buried.

(the top image is from the ie6nomore.com website)

The next big task is to go backwards through the posts sorting out over or undersized images, I’ve done the first two pages but considering how long they took I might just do them every so often.

[edit] I think I’ve managed to redirect all the old links to the new format (time will tell) and I’ve instructed google to remove the old ‘labels’ and ‘archive’ pages from its’ search index so that people (and the seach engines) don’t follow these and arive at an error page. I’m up to page 4 on my image resizing, it’s taking a while to locate the original images but I’ll get there.

Spring is finally here, officially it’s the first day of spring today, also know as the Spring Solstice or Vernal Equinox, and we’ve had some amazing weather this week with temperatures rising as the Sun makes it’s presence known – finally.

As for spring cleaning, as well as the usual house related nonsense, I’m migrating this blog fully to a server hosed by supanames using wordpress to drive it and while I’m at it doing that giving it a new look. What this means is the blog may collapse or look a bit odd for a while. Hopefully I’ll have it sorted over the weekend but I’ve learned in this industry (web design, building, etc) that you can never be 100% certain that things will go according to plan.

There may be a few broken links for a while and I know the images need sorting out (making bigger) but stay with me, hopefully I’ll have it all sorted soon.

Well it looks like the weather has finally got round to remembering that Spring should be arriving soon. During my lunchtime walk today I saw so many different bird species in the center of Bolton it was like walking into an aviary – I know they haven’t just arrived but it does make you wonder where they’ve been hiding all this time.

The spring flowers are just starting to show and the buds are beginning to swell on the trees and I can’t wait. I know it’s spring proper when i can drive home without my lights on – a couple of weeks till then but still, it’s on the way.

In the meantime I’ve found a few more blogs that are worth looking at;

Henry Gilbey – the world of fishing – I’ve mentioned Henry’s blog before but if you haven’t yet visited it it’s certainly worth a read.

Moniar’s Fishing Diary – Recently (last year) taken up sea fishing from a Kayak, Moniar is getting some great results and photo’s. Moniar was on the beach fishing with his son when we had a fantastic session catching small eyed rays during October 2006.

MrFishJersey – Only just found this blog about lure fishing (primarily for Bass I think) in Jersey. One day I’ll have to get to the Channel Isles it looks amazing.

Musing from the Anglesey Photo-Artist – Some amazing photo’s from an artist who’s gallery I must have driven past hundreds of times without realising it’s there. I must go in for a proper look.

I Know how hard it is to take a good photo on land so how he managed these and remembered to breath is beyond me. Amazing to see the ocean from under the waves for a change but me, I’d rather watch it from above, chilled out in the sun with fishing rod in hand.
