Porth Swtan to Ynys y Fydlyn Coastal Walk

The day started with light rain so we didn’t get out and about until after lunch so needed something fairly quick and easy. A short circular walk was needed so we consulted our ‘go too’ coastal walk book (Coastal Walks around Anglesey by Carl Rogers) and headed to the North West corner of the island, Porth Swtan (Church Bay). We parked up at Porth Swtan (Church Bay) and headed north, inland a little, across the moors and climbing slightly until [... read rest of post]

A Run Along the Straights, Another Newborough Paddle and a bit of Sea Fishing

After an early start for a pre-breakfast run along along the Menai Straights, past Anglesey Sea Zoo and up to the main road and back for a route of approx. 6k of hard fast hilly running we spent a lazy morning before heading over to The Boathouse Café at Red Wharf Bay where we continued to do nothing more exerting than reading until our sticky beef salad lunch, which was excellent. After lunch we headed over to Llanddona beach for [... read rest of post]

Foel Farm Lure Fishing and a Newborough Beach Walk

Getting well into the swing of relaxing (it doesn’t take much on Anglesey) after a late start we had a gentle cycle up to a local café to check out the cakes, we were on holiday after all, which turned into a circular ride of about 18km (11miles). The afternoon was spent reading and drinking tea as the forecast was rain but as it never showed up, after dinner we went for a walk on the northern side of Aberffraw for [... read rest of post]

Arrival on Anglesey and Cemlyn Bay to Carmel Head

Our summer break seemed to arrive very quickly this year, probably because we’ve both been busy running up and down hills but there was no need to rush as we packed the car with what seemed like everything we owned. This time the mountain bikes were going on a rack on the boot so the journey down was going to be a gentle affair. The rack performed as intended but I think I’d be far happier with the bikes on the [... read rest of post]

An Active Anglesey Bank Holiday

A couple of weeks ago we ventured to Anglesey for our annual start of May bank holiday break. Every year it seems to take ages to get to the start of May but it certainly feels great once you realise the time is here. We took even more gear than usual as this year we had a couple of mountain bikes with us. We managed to get them in the car but only because this is a relatively short break, [... read rest of post]

Holyhead Mountain via the Stacks

After our somewhat strenuous walk up Snowdon in the blazing heat our next walk was the little easier Holyhead Mountain. Not really a mountain in the ‘proper’ sense but that’s what it’s called and getting to the top did involve a few mountain goat style climbs in places. We started our walk at the car park just above RSPB South Stack where looking back down to the light house and forward to North Stack you got some amazing views of [... read rest of post]

Sunset over Sandy Beach Sea Fishing

Another of our favourite beaches on Anglesey is Sandy Beach, and yes it really is called that. Local information says that you fish it a couple of hours either side of low water for either; Bass if there’s a surf or Smooth Hound if it’s flat. As Anglesey was treating us to some truly fantastic weather we visited Sandy Beach one evening over low water. The sea was mirror calm as we loaded our pulley rigs with fresh Peeler crab, [... read rest of post]

A Broad Beach to Search for Dogfish

After a few days relaxing we elected to visit a beach on the western side of Anglesey, Porth Nobla or ‘Broad Beach’ as I think it’s called. This beach has thrown up a few good fish for us in the past and even though there was no wind to speak off we were hoping for a good evenings sport with a few dogfish and, after chatting to an angler on our walk along the Cymyran Beach a few days earlier, [... read rest of post]

Anglesey Arrival, Cymyran Paddle and Cemlyn Walk

An early start saw us making much better time than anticipated on our journey down to Anglesey so we popped in to ‘Oinkys’ a new cafe on the A55 at Llandulas owned and run by Gareth, who coincidently owns Menai Angling where we picked up a healthy supply of bait for the next two weeks. The café was excellent and the bait equally so and we arrived at Our cottage at Ty Cristion around lunch time. The usual unpacking was [... read rest of post]

May I Have This Anglesey Adventure?

It’s always the same isn’t it, that stupid excited feeling you get as your first holiday of the year arrives. So it was a few weeks ago when we ventured once more to the beautiful Isle of Anglesey and 2.5 hours later we were unloading a small expeditions worth of gear into ‘Bethan’s Corner’, the cottage at Ty Cristion that was to be our base for the coming week. We were so relaxed it took us a while to get [... read rest of post]
