Relaxing Sea Fishing at Rossall, Lancashire

Last night we had a quick trip up to Rossall near Fleetwood, Lancashire to see if we could snare a few fish before Christmas and to get away from the mayhem that seems to arrive at this time every year. The weather was by no means ideal and when we got there the sea was flat calm with a mist rolling in. It’s always a bit strange being on a beach during the night but with hardly a ripple on [... read rest of post]

Long Weekend on Anglesey - Sept / Oct 2006

The weather forecast was great with occasional showers and a light wind blowing onto the beaches we intended to fish as we arrived for our final sea fishing trip to Anglesey this year. We were staying at Ty Cristion again and after unloading the car and settling in I made a quick phone call to Gareth of fishing4u.co.uk and we set off for a secret mark well known to the local lads for big Bass. Unfortunately it must have been [... read rest of post]

Seacombe Promenade, River Mersey

Last Sunday (24th Sept.) was the first match of the WSF (Wirral Sea Fishing) Winter League held in conjuction with a BLAS (Blackpool and Layton Angling Society) match, held on the Wirral side of the River Mersey along Seacombe Promenade. We met up at 9am to sign in for the match which, considering it was the first of the season, had a good turnout of about 50 hopeful anglers. After making our way to our chosen mark and getting set [... read rest of post]

River Alt, Merseyside - BLAS Match, June 11th

An easy days fishing on a blazing hot day – fantastic. After collecting some great bait – peeler crabs from Chris at Moreton Angling Centre ( on the Wirral) on Saturday morning Wendy was fired up to defend the estuary cup as she’d already won leg one earlier in the year at Fort Perch Rock. The River Alt is a beautiful place, especially when the weather is so good and seems almost like it’s own little world sometimes. The fishing [... read rest of post]

Anglesey, Newborough Beach

After a cuppa and picking up some different gear we quickly drove down to Newborough to catch the last hour of the flood and a couple of hours down again. As we arrived a couple of people were leaving which didn’t look to good but on arrival we spotted a few people fishing into the surf but they seemed to be having a lot of problems with weed – here we go again I thought! The venue changes dramatically during [... read rest of post]

River Alt Estuary - Flounder Fishing

Finally finished laying the floor in the downstairs bathroom on Saturday so treated myself by leaving Wendy in bed and getting down to the River Alt Estuary at Hightown, between Formby and Crosby, at 6.45am where I met a few mates for an easy light rod session catching Flounder. The weather was great although the fishing was very slow and we only managed a total of 4 fish before the tide went out too far. The bait we’d usually use [... read rest of post]

Caldy - River Dee, April 16th

After so much rain it was great to start a fishing match in the Sun. The was a good turnout for this one from both the BLAS and WSF guys and girls, especially considering it was Easter Sunday – we there were even a few people from NWASAC. The venue known as Caldy is situated on the Wirral side of the River Dee estuary and is a well known Flounder mark – particularly at this time of year and the [... read rest of post]

Spring - a damp start and no fish

Well since the last post we’ve been fishing at Cleveleys, Blackpool but as the weather was so bad and the fishing even worse the camera stayed in its case. I know this will seem odd but I don’t think I’ve ever been so wet while fishing – things are still drying out today – 2 days later. And just to make matters worse the amount of weed getting caught on the line was unbelievable. At one point there was so [... read rest of post]
